Holland legend Wesley Sneijder has called time on his illustrious career. The 35-year-old has announced his retirement from the game after leaving Qatari club Al-Gharafa.

Sneijder enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in the game and remains Holland’s most-capped player having made 134 appearances for his country.

He guided his side to a World Cup runners-up spot in 2010 but what silverware he failed to win at international level, he certainly made up for it in club football.

Like many of the game’s greats, Sneijder was a product of the famous Ajax academy and enjoyed five full seasons in the senior side.

He would win his first piece of silverware in 2004 when Ajax were crowned Eredivisie champions.

Two domestic cups would follow before earning a move to Real Madrid in 2007.

Despite winning the La Liga title, Sneijder struggled to live up to his high expectations and joined Inter Milan two years later.

It was there, under Jose Mourinho, where he would enjoy his most successful spell in his career.

In his first season at the San Siro, he was part of the famous treble-winning side that were crowned European champions.

Sneijder scored a crucial goal in the semi-finals before supplying Diego Milito for the opener in the final.

He ended up winning six trophies with Inter and made 122 appearances before moving to Galatasaray in 2013.

Another five major trophies would follow and in the twilight of his career he would move to Nice and eventually Al-Gharafa.
