Southampton boss Hasenhuttl explains Maya Yoshida move

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has explained allowing Maya Yoshida move to Sampdoria.

The Japan captain is now on-loan with Sampdoria.

Hasenhuttl said: “This decision was taken very quickly on the flight to Liverpool. It was a long time he played for this club.

“He was a valuable player for this club, but at the moment I cannot give him what he expects to get.

“He needs moments to play, and it’s usually a player comes to the coach and says, ‘I like it here and the way we play, but I don’t play that often and need something else.’

“It was understandable, and I wish him all the best. He’s a fantastic character and a fantastic player.”

Maya Yoshida has not featured in a Premier League match for Southampton in some time and is now linked with a move to Trabzonspor.

The Turkish side is keen on signing a central defender this month as they have struggled to keep clean sheets as of late. They currently sit in 3rd on the table and are looking to make a push for the title in the second half of the season.

Not only are the Turkish side interested in Japanese international, but it is reported Yoshida is also open to leaving in search of more playing time. At one point, it would have been a safe bet that Yoshida would have seen out his career with Southampton, but sadly that no longer seems like the case.
